Dofus v8b — Dofus History

After v7b comes v8b, but I have very little information about this version — Dofus Times #1 mentions it vaguely. If we assume that updates were released on Wednesdays, the v7b update took place on February 25, 2004 and v9b took place on March 10, 2004, so v8b would have been released on March 3, 2004 and would have only brought minor changes.

The end of the multi-console

According to the v9b changelog, this version removes the multi-console from the game — fights are now launched and take place directly on the maps of the old free-roam mode (Amakna); for the occasion, the map steles are changed to the sprite that no longer has the ? symbol. The v7b client already includes the swords visible on the map when launching a fight, as well as the steles that replace the original steles that gave access to the multi-console; v7b and v8b are currently hard to tell apart, and in particular it's hard to know whether v7b already allowed doing without the multi-console. In v7b screenshots, fights already take place on Amakna's maps. The friends interface seems to have come back with version v9b (v7b doesn't include any interface for managing friends outside of the console). The removal of the multi-console is a major shift compared to Dofus's 2003 trailer, where the Dofus business office was meant to be a place that allowed launching fights as well as taking quests.

For v7b and v8b, these are the last versions with little documentation (mostly caused by the closed beta) — the following versions will be better documented.

These v8b-v9b versions also mark the switch from gold to kamas for the game's currency. (sources: beta v10 clients, which feature kamas)
