New area, Frigost Island: Episode 1 of the Frigost expansion is available in this update. Frigost Island will however only be accessible in the late afternoon (the other changes in this update are available right after the end of maintenance on 06/25/10). Episode 1 includes 4 new dungeons, around fifty equippable items, new areas, quests, monsters, resources, houses, and enclosures. This episode is mainly intended for characters level 100 to 180, although all the content can be enjoyed from level 50 (the minimum level to access the island) up to level 200. Quick equipment system: A new feature lets you define equipment sets, save them, and equip them with a single mouse click in order to very quickly swap one or several equipped items on a character. A full article on this feature is available on the devblog. New stats and item bonuses: Episode 1 of the Frigost expansion brings new stats and bonuses on future items. The total of these stats is available in the advanced stats interface. We created these new effects to more effectively diversify the game's new equipment and make it easier to build more specialized and distinct characters. Here is the list of these new stats:
- Tackle: this is the stat that determines a character's or monster's ability to hold its opponent in melee range (on a cell adjacent to its own). The higher this stat, the less chance your opponents have of successfully fleeing when they're on a cell adjacent to your character's. 10 points of agility grant 1 point in the Tackle stat.
- Dodge: this is the opposite stat to Tackle. It determines a character's or monster's ability to escape an opponent's tackle zone. The higher this stat, the more chance your character has of getting out of an opponent's tackle zone. 10 points of agility grant 1 point in the Dodge stat.
- Air / Water / Fire / Neutral / Earth Damage: these bonuses are fixed damage similar to classic damage bonuses, but only affect a single element.
- Critical resistance: this bonus is a fixed reduction of critical damage across all elements. It therefore only comes into play when a character receives damage from a critical hit. This new stat lets us gradually reduce the effectiveness of critical damage, which we consider too high.
- Pushback damage: this bonus increases the fixed damage dealt by pushback spells.
- Pushback damage resistance: this bonus increases the fixed resistance to damage dealt by pushback spells.
The separation between agility, tackle, and dodge lets us reduce the importance of the agility stat (which we consider too significant) and allows for the creation of much more varied and specialized character "builds." A character specialized in tackle will no longer necessarily be a character with a huge amount of agility points. Since agility still grants tackle and dodge bonuses, a character stacking agility points along with tackle or dodge bonuses will nevertheless still always be more effective for tackling or dodging than a character who only benefits from tackle or dodge bonuses. Adaptive experience for quests: Experience rewards for quests are now indexed to the level of the characters who complete them. Only Frigost expansion quests are affected for now. Some "older" quests will gradually benefit from this system in upcoming updates. This feature increases experience point rewards for high-level characters who complete low-level quests, in order to make most quest rewards more appealing for high-level characters. The amounts of experience given by high-level quests (Frigost quests, for example) are reduced for low-level characters, so as not to let low-level characters progress far too quickly. This system lets us offer high-level quests with substantial experience point rewards without risking throwing off the balance of the character progression curve. Optimization and performance:
- A new interface called "Compatibility" in the options menu now displays the version of Adobe Air being used and lets you change the version used by the client. For technical reasons beyond our control, the DOFUS client only allows this option to be changed if the Flash quality selection option is itself changeable. If this option isn't changeable, the interface then offers to download the installer for Adobe Air 1.5 or 2.0. If this option is changeable, the client will use Adobe Air version 1.5 by default for stability reasons. Players who still wish to use Adobe Air version 2.0 will need to change this option manually.
- The world map display is optimized. From now on only the visible parts are loaded into memory, and the map now exists in several resolutions. The map loads faster and its display uses less memory. In addition, this interface is no longer cached, which frees up around 50 megabytes of memory after it's opened.
- Inventory management is improved, its display is now faster.
- Messages shown in the combat log (in the chat interface) are now merged when an identical effect affects several targets. This change makes the combat log easier to read and improves client performance in combat.
- AI performance is improved; certain unnecessary calculations during random AP/MP gains or thefts have been removed. This change improves game server performance overall.
Game installation and updates:
- The graphics files for characters, monsters, and sounds are now grouped into shared data files. These changes make game installation and updates faster.
- The sound engine update now works correctly on Linux.
Interfaces:
- Automatic server selection now works correctly in the advanced server selection interface when the full server list is displayed. This interface can now be opened several times.
- Canceling character creation on a server where the last character was deleted now returns to the server list.
- The text in the orange buttons is now correctly positioned again.
- Moving a non-tradable item from an inventory onto the game map no longer shows an unnecessary confirmation prompt.
- The house management interface no longer overlaps with the name of the area the character is in.
Inventory:
- Items added to inventories (character inventory, bank, chest, trash, Dragoturkey inventory, etc.) are once again displayed in the first slot.
- Inventory filters are no longer reset when the amount of Kamas held changes (for example, when selling an item to a non-player character).
- Item icons in the inventory no longer flip.
- Character auras no longer appear on the inventory interface.
- Clicking an item or spell from the quick access bar now clears the information displayed on hover.
Runes (item enchanting):
- The option to filter usable items in the enchanting interface works again.
- The state of the option to filter usable items in the enchanting interface is now kept after reconnecting.
Auction house:
- When browsing items at the auction house (in buy mode), the item with quantity 1 is no longer selected by default when prices are refreshed.
- The option to filter possible sales at the auction house works again.
- The state of the option to filter possible sales at the auction house is now kept after reconnecting.
- The auction house interface now opens correctly even if the inventory interface is already open.
- Purchased items are no longer displayed in the auction house's buy interface (in some cases, purchased items would still remain displayed).
Chat interface:
- Character names are now interactive in the chat interface ("chat") in messages announcing a friend's connection, a friend leveling up, or when using the "/whois" command.
Combat:
- Character names in combat log messages are now interactive ("clickable") and now indicate the targeted character with an arrow.
- The display of the duration of triggered spells affecting a target is fixed when the target is also the caster of the spell.
- An idle mode is now available in battles involving more than one character. If a player passes their turn without moving the mouse cursor and without pressing any keyboard key, they switch to idle mode and will therefore automatically pass their subsequent turns until they exit idle mode (by moving their mouse cursor or pressing a keyboard key). This system speeds up the flow of battles when players are no longer participating in combat.
- The quick access bar now switches directly to spell display once the placement phase is over, rather than as soon as the placement phase begins. This change makes it easier to use shortcuts to quickly select a new equipment set before the placement phase ends.
- An error message is now displayed when it's not possible to use an item during the battle preparation phase (for example, when an item that restores health points is used while the character already has full health).
Spells:
- Triggered spells (such as the Sappers' "Nowel" spell, for example) are once again reduced by protections (spell or damage reflection, for example).
- Triggered spells can now only be triggered a limited number of times per turn. The maximum number of triggers per turn is specific to each spell.
Tax Collectors:
- Ghosts can no longer join Tax Collector battles.
- When a Tax Collector is attacked, the remaining time gauge to join the defense is once again visible in the guild interface and works correctly even after closing and reopening the guild interface.
- The images showing the composition of the opposing team during a Tax Collector attack are once again displayed correctly.
Monsters:
- Gloutoblop: the "Gorging" spell now correctly steals MP (this MP loss can no longer be dodged).
- Dragueuse: the "Seduction" spell now correctly steals AP (this AP loss can no longer be dodged).
- Touchparak: the monster no longer tries to get behind the wagon and therefore no longer risks getting stuck.
- Marôdeur: the "Filoutage" spell no longer causes latency issues in combat.
- Kokoko: the "Kokopok" spell now plays correctly and the spell effect plays on its target.
Artificial intelligence:
- When a player detects the presence of an invisible target (by precisely targeting with a spell the cell where the invisible target was present), the invisible target's position is now shared with allied AI (allied summons, for example).
- Monsters with non-aggressive behavior now use their MP more effectively (the Bwork Mage, for example, would sometimes not use its last MP to push back a target).
- The clone now avoids entering and staying in the tackle zone of static creatures.
- Handling of the disenchant effect that only triggers on a critical hit when a monster is affected by a sacrifice effect is improved. For example, an Enutrof Dopple sacrificed by its Animated Bag, attempting to disenchant an opponent with damage reflection on a critical hit, no longer gets stuck if the critical disenchant doesn't occur and the damage reflection causes a position swap with its Animated Bag.
- The position-swap action is rebalanced and now carries less weight for the AI. The "N" monster, for example, no longer tries to swap positions with a character under a spell-reflection effect.
- The tracking of MP used by monsters is fixed, which improves the behavior of monsters using teleportation spells. The Iop Dopple now uses the "Leap" spell, for example.
- Handling of traps that move targets (the "Repulsive Trap," for example) is improved when the trap only moves the AI's target. The AI now correctly accounts for its target's change of position.
- Handling of movement for monsters with devoted behavior is improved: they now try to stay close enough to their master while avoiding enemies.
Professions:
- The effectiveness of harvesting abilities for characters on unsubscribed accounts is fixed; a character whose profession level is above 30 now benefits from the harvesting bonuses of a level 30.
Keyboard shortcuts:
- The "Command" key on Mac is now correctly recognized. This key can be used as an alternative to the "Ctrl" key.
- The "Escape" key works correctly again after closing the inventory.
Territory conquest and PvP:
- Characters teleported to the gate of a conquest village when it's captured by the enemy alignment no longer have their save position changed.
Items:
- Using a home potion when the character is already present in their house no longer consumes the home potion.
Automatic zoom for interiors:
- A new option, accessible from the "Features" menu of the options interface, lets you automatically zoom in on interior areas (such as houses, for example). This option is disabled by default.
Miscellaneous:
- Updating a flag on the mini-map now correctly updates the information available when hovering over the flag.
- Characters no longer slide after using an interactive element (after harvesting a resource, for example).
- Future married characters once again face each other during the wedding ceremony.
- Characters and interactive elements no longer disappear after prolonged inactivity.
- Incarnations (Dark Miner, Black Knight, etc.) now have a critical failure animation for their melee attack.
- The appearance of the Ghost of the Vile Little Corbac is fixed in the inventory.
- The character's left arm no longer disappears during the "Leaf" emote animation.
- The size of the Zoth Kid's Hammer is fixed.
- The appearance of all weapons in the game is fixed. Weapons now display their correct appearance during the "Show weapon" emote and during a melee attack.
